Hunter's Prey
Charpentier’s chamber opera Actéon tells the tale of a hunter whose brief vision of Diana proves fatal, while Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie relates the story of two lovers who, while fleeing a vengeful stepmother, enjoy a brief hunt in the forest.
La Gran Esperanza
La Gran Esperanza is a short, immersive opera presented at the Blaffer Art Museum. Centered on finding hope and determination in the face of adversity, the work follows three Hispanic childhood friends whose lives are shaped by the support and success that grows from unwavering resolve and one boy’s dreams of baseball. La Gran Esperanza is composed by Nathan Felix and conducted by Jilin Dong and features performers from the University of Houston student alongside professional musicians from the greater Houston community. Please be aware that this is an interactive performance with no seating. Attendees will move with the performers throughout the museum, which includes stairs leading to the second level. An accessibility survey will be provided with ticket confirmation.
Handel's Messiah
The Concert Choir & Orchestra, along with special guest soloists, present Handel’s Messiah at 8 pm December 10, 11 & 12, 2026.
Free general admission tickets will be available at 7 pm each evening for that evening’s performance. Please arrive early to claim your free tickets distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
As our twenty-first season unfolds, we anticipate yet another wonderful experience for the Christmas season. The CPC choir and orchestra and special guest soloists will once again delight you with this special masterwork. Please join us for Handel’s Messiah, which has become a wonderful tradition here at Christ Presbyterian Church in Houston.
This year’s Messiah performances feature our 17th century Flemish harpsichord once again. This authentic Flemish style single manual instrument after Ruckers as designed by Marc Ducornet with all parts and materials from Atelier Marc Ducornet in Paris, was custom built by Gerald Self.

Houston Grand Opera and Holocaust Museum Houston present a storybook opera, Music of the Butterfly: A Story of Hope. This work tells the true story of young Renée, whose love of music and memories of butterflies in her Hungarian childhood sustain her through the darkness of the Holocaust. With lyrical storytelling and vivid illustrations, this powerful story introduces young people to history through a message of resilience, courage, and enduring hope.
